Let's just say we have bad luck when planning trips. We went to St. Louis for their record breaking heat & when it cooled we returned to Cali for their record breaking heat.
Ben & I have been feeling pretty strongly that we need to spend time with my dad in some way, shape or form. There haven't been any super dramatic developments in his disease other than a slow progression. We just wanted to make sure he & our kids know how much we love & respect the man that has been such an amazing father.
After brainstorming we decided to spend a month in St.Louis this summer devoted to him. We are lucky that Ben is able to work virtually when needed, so he worked the month in a nice room right next to the kids playroom.
We found this trip made it a little difficult in that we didn't want to keep it a secret from all the people we love to see in the Lou, but we also didn't want to be distracted from our main focus of devoting all our time to my dad. It was a little tricky & I hope we didn't offend anyone, but it really was a trip we will never regret.
The kids were in heaven playing with their millions of cousins, while I was my dad's chauffeur for the most part. He is a busy body & was more than happy to have someone willing to take him & his little maltipoo to all his buddy's houses & random errands every day. Generally the day started with him saying "no plans for today. you just hang out" followed 5 minutes later by "you aren't dressed yet!?? I have to get to so & so's house & then drop off this & that & end the day with a long drive to illinois for the fun of it! Hurry up!" It was quite humorous. Especially when he would complain to Hunney (his dog) about the way I was driving, how long I was taking, etc as if she was the one with the problem. The man is a riot. Really that quality time I wouldn't change for the world. Knowing that we were making him happy & doing our bit to thank him for who he is will never be forgotten. He really is such a great man that has touched so many lives in so many ways. Love you dad!
And really there weren't a lot of camera moments there, so again, some random phone photos to end the post.
Oh & our sweet 15 year old niece Maddy squished in the car on the way back to come to Cali for a week & play! It was so fun to have her & be a tourist.

What an awesome post and what a neat trip to take. I could just hear him saying all those thing you quoted him saying. He has a great sense of humor. Your dad is an amazing man. So happy you got to spend some good quality time with him.
that is really the sweetest thing. he will appreciate that forever i'm sure! it's so nice ben could be there with you and that maddy could come for a visit!!
how fun. glad you got to do some good trips pre-baby. she is coming soon!! i finally got some kai pics up so you can get all excited for your little sweet cheeks to pop out!
