1st of all, i must warn you that i am getting quite wordy lately. and this one i just couldn't find anywhere in my emotions to shorten.
my sweet friend brown katie (i had another good friend named katie at the same time that was blonde, so they had to be differentiated & it's stuck) from college in chicago finally got married. yes finally. this is after living with her boyfriend for 10 years he decided it was time to commit:). i have been scheming & scheming to find a way to get to their wedding in new mexico for months, but with a lack of $$ & 2 little people it hit brick walls. so as was posted prior, uncle paul came to the rescue.
we left our littlens with the uncle friday, drove to new mexico, went to the wedding & turned around to be home by Sunday evening. yes, do the math. 12 hour drive. it was exhausting, but seriously one of the most relaxing weekends we have ever had. it was wonderful. the drive was great, the wedding was perfect, new mexico was gorgeous.
arriving in santa fe at 4:30am we passed out for a few hours & then got up to take in all we could of new mexico in 24 hours. i really can't say enough how divine it was to just be the 2 of us doing the things we love completely uninhibited for a day. it was the perfect amount of meandering aimlessly in santa fe's thrift stores, art galleries, farmer's markets & hippy dances (yes really hippy dancing).
off to albuquerque in the evening for THE wedding. really i think it was the best wedding ever. i wish i knew all the words to say how impressed i was with it. it was extremely sweet & simple & all kinds of beautiful. i don't think there could have been a single dry eye when katie came in (& if it was you, you are heartless). it was elegance, simplicity & romance at its absolute best. the ceremony was outside in katie's parents backyard in the middle of nowhere, overlooking the sunset on a riverbed. they wrote their own vows to each other (huge plus) & all in all it could not have been more than 10 minutes, but every person there understood & felt their extreme love & respect for one another. they really let us all into their moment & we happily embraced it with them.
the reception was great food, more romance & lots of dancing to the wee hours.
i am not sure about the rest of you, but for me it seems lately as i look around me i believe less & less in marriage. it's hard to find even one that still has love & devotion. watching the two of them reminded me though that i do still believe in marriage with all my heart. i still believe in commitment. i believe in loving someone more than anything. in being willing to deal with their flaws because you know who they can be & you're their biggest fan. i still believe in standing by the one that makes you laugh. i still believe in being strong & dedicated to the one that trusted you with their heart.
Enjoy our us time...

AWWWWW!!!! You are too sweet! I had such an amazing time and I really was awed by the fact that you and
Ben made it out to the wedding. We really felt special and loved by your presence and I can't wait to pay you back with a visit to California sometime soon!!!
Brown Katie
Oh Sweet post! I'm glad to hear you are still a believer in love. And glad you got to go the wedding and get a little couple time with Ben. And PS I am totally digging the lens flare photo at the top. All the photos are pretty! Hooray for true love!
It's wonderful that your friend and partner wanted to celebrate their love with a commitment such as a wedding. I would just like to point out that their love has been wonderful to this point without it as well. I understand your believing less and less in marriage but wonder if it is more the believing less and less in relationships working. I don't believe 'marriage' means any more commitment than a relationship where a couple love one another and chose to live together. Every day they stay together because of that love, not because they are 'married'. I don't believe we should judge a relationship to be more real or less real because a couple are married or not.
What ever a couple decide to do as long as they are doing what they feel is right for them and are each others biggest fans etc like you said then I for one am very happy for them :)
