Choosing Taj's name conjured up more than a few opinions from all sides. Everyone had something to say about it, which is why this round we will not be mentioning any names until the baby is born.
So, how to pronounce the name... we prefer it Taj sounding like the "cas" in casual. Yes we know that technically it's supposed to be Taj like Taj Mahal, but we did lots of debating & deliberating about it & got lots of opinions & just decided while we really like Taaahj (enough that if we hadn't named our child Taj maybe the next would be Taahj), we're going to call him Taj. We figure it's like Aaahna or Anna. Just different pronunciations.
We're totally cool with him going by Taahj if he decides that's what he wants & we know that our "aaa" sound is an American thing that doesn't exist elsewhere (namely Ben's NZ relatives), so we're cool with Taaahj there too. But on a daily basis we face questions about the name, so here's our official stance in writing. It's amazing how a name can cause such controversy! We've even had people refuse to call him Taj (our way)!!! Sadly you don't get to choose family.

Denae, my parents decided to do the same thing with me. They didn't tell anyone what my name was going to be either when my mom was pregnant with me. We have the problem with pronunciation with my name, too, some people will call me Tiara(tea-are-a) instead
of Tiara(tea-air-a), so don't worry your not alone. Good idea with having the name be a secret! :)
My Uncle had a brother named Asa, but Frank Zappa has 'em all beat with his kids, Moon Unit and Dweezil. Hope your having a nice summer, I have been incredibly busy, working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, but the money is fantastic. Love Brian
My folks named me Benjamin but some believe it to be Ben'German'.
So if your Uncle had a brother named Asa, wouldn't he be your Uncle too?

WHAT BEN? There isn't an "R" in your name? Sorry ---just went there ONCE again! Still makes me laugh---I thought it was Bengerman like Benjerman Franklin! Leave it to my fam to screw up a name for like ten years and worst of all NOT even know it!
Worst name???? I know a guy named Cotton Hunter---easy to pronounce, but hard to take seriously! How about two sisters named Hannah and Anna---whatever?!

A parent has a right to torture their child with whatever name they want (not that Taj is tortured). It's the right of birthing.
My brother Jeremy (jere-a-me) got Germ-y alot (not as a tease, people seriously thought this was how you pronounced it).
The most unfortunate name I can think of is William S. Williams one of the choir directors at my high school.
I think #2 should be named Jat. Now you have Taj and Jat. If you do it right labeling clothes and hand-me-downs will be a breeze. You're welcome.
Taj is Taj and it can never change. It fits him. When the heck did you go camping?
d- your 2 past posts have cracked me up! Here's the thing with baby names..."you grow it (or adopt it)- you name it". I can't wait to hear your little girl's name! (YES- I said little girl even though even YOU don't know what you're having...right?? But that's my official guess. Do I win something if I'm right?)

craziest name ever belongs to my neighbor. they named their little boy 'killa' as in 'killer.' killa has two cousins named 'rebel' and 'ivanhoe'.
My Uncle was married to my dad's sister,thus being my uncle by marriage, his brother would not be related to me, even in Anchor point!So there !! Do they do it different in Missouri?? Just curious, hehe Brian
Hey Denae! It was great to see you in St Louis and catch up. Taj is adorable btw. About a month ago on the MSN home page they had the top 100 worst names in American's history. I couldn't believe some of the names on there like Tiny Hooker! It's crazy.

I have to admit, it took me a minute to get used to the name Taj as well, but it TOTALLy fits him now. K, that red tent is freakin huge! And the weirdest name I have ever heard for a girl would probably be Moonunit. WHY?!
nevermind at this wedding we were at last weekend there was a kid running around that a few people were yelling at to get him to settle down... i think that i heard a gage, rage, dage... not to sure anyone really knew his name... turns out it was tage. pronounced like your taj.
Why not have both ways be the "correct" pronunciation? Or maybe you could explain that in the east, the correct pronunciation is "Taaahj," and in the west the correct pronunciation "Taahj." Better yet, the official correct pronunciation for male speakers could be "Taahj" and the official correct pronunciation for female speakers could be "stud muffin hero."

your baby-your name! i would never let people pronounce it anyway they want though, stick with it. kiley's bf has a cousin that married a cletus cotton, that is pretty bad and he looks like a cletus cotton too. both my kids names are misspelled constantly, i am sure you got a few happenings with denae, it is what it is.

My favorite name ever-
My friend Kate was a camp counselor and there were these 2 kids who she used to look after at camp. They were expecting a sibiling and really wanted to name it, so the parents said OK (not sure why you'd let your 8 and 10 year old name it, but whatevs). So they thought and thought and came up with Brontosaurus-- YES. While that wasn't the new baby's first name, they did allow it to be her middle name, so they named her Hannah Brontosaurus. I'm totally jealous.
The other day on the radio they were talking about weird names & a lady called in & said she went to high school with a Harry Pickle. Who ARE these people!!?!
